St Osyth beach is situated at Huntleys beach near St Osyth.St Osyth is a village and civil parish in northeast Essex. It is about 5 miles (8.0 km) west of Clacton-on-Sea, and about 12 miles (19.3 km) southeast of Colchester. It is located on the B1027 road and is named after Osyth, a saint and Anglian princess. Been to St Osyth a couple of times now.I was concerned that erosion might have spoilt the beach during the winter storms but it is not too bad. Quite nice in the sun as long as you kept out of the wind.

St Osyth beach is pleasant enough but unfortunately does suffer with undesirables due to its position

I agree there are some undesirables on this beach mainly at the far end near the nature reserve.
In my experience the first third tends to be 90% naturists with a few other types, the middle third is a mixture of naturists dogging and assorted pervs, the last third is mainly chaps involved in sexual activities.
I would suggest true naturists stay in the first third if they are prone to being shocked.

frintonguy has answered my question before I asked it! Thanks.
It's several years since we visited, back when you could drive along. Walking naked from car to beach is a pleasure we haven't experienced since.
We were put off by the gawkers. Are they still a problem or has it got better/worse?
Also, where's the best place to park? On the beach or nearby?
Thanks for your advice.

Wendy
Glad I was able to help! I have been going there since a couple of years before it became impossible to drive along, certainly there are gawkers but perhaps not any worse than it was. If you go on a warm summer weekend you will have many 'gawkers' ( I call them 'mere cats' ) but on a sunny mid week day it can be rather pleasant. Parking, you can still pay and drive through the gap into the car park but it is small and very uneven, I would park either next to the sea wall if there is space or in the larger car park behind the buildings. Don't be put off by the disadvantages .......give it a go again!

Thanks for the reassurance, Michael. May I ask you a question?
When we could still drive, it was easy. Park the car near the others, undress, then find a nice spot. We can't do that any more, so how do we know when we can be naked? I guess there's no sign at the beginning nor between the sections you describe. If there are already people there, then no great problem. But ISTR that on weekdays, it was quiet. It's a girlie thing, but I wouldn't to be nude and alone too soon.
Thanks.

Can't see how to edit. The last phrase should read: ... I wouldn't want to be nude and alone too soon

Hello again Wendy
I can understand your concern about where to undress.
As you walk along in the direction of the naturist beach You may or may not see a few people in partial or complete state of undress. When I arrive I tend to walk the length of the beach right up to the signs asking you not to enter the nature reserve. In doing so I get the feeling of the way it is there that day. In your case You may decide to walk along until you see things that are not to your taste then turn and stop at a spot you previously spotted that you would feel was appropriate to be naked. If you don't see a place that you would feel safe then either sit somewhere fully dressed or return to your car. I really think that you would be much happier if you went along there with a friend the first time or two. If you plan to go alone then perhaps you would be better off on a sunny week end since there would be more real naturists giving a choice a places to sit. Once you become accustomed to the place again then you will be happy to go on your own mid week.

No !
The first few hundred yards after the car park MIGHT be ok but any further is risky for young kids.
My suggestion would be turn left rather than right and so get further away from the naturist beach.

I've considered going to St Osyth a few times on my weekday days off in the summer, but not driving seems to make it quite complicated. Somebody told me there's a bus direct from Clacton train station, can someone confirm that? Thanks, Ian.
